Nightlife in Koh Tao
Koh Tao is a peaceful and idyllic place by day and at night there is plenty of great places to have a cold beer or cocktail. Although you can find a bar on nearly all of the beaches in Koh Tao much of the nightlife on the island centers around Sairee Village and Mae Haad. It is often worth checking around for Happy Hours. Here is a list of some of the better places in Koh Tao to enjoy a few drinks with friends. For those looking for a 'party adventure' it is a simple matter to get on a ferry to Koh Phangan and go to one of the parties at Baan Tai or the big one, the Full Moon Party, in Haad Rin. Exit Bar in Chalok Baan Kao is near Sunshine Resort. It's built on a pier over the ocean and plays chilled dance beats. Exit Bar has a friendly and laid back atmosphere that is addictive.
Lotus Bar on Sairee Beach is perhaps the most popular bars on Koh Tao. There is decking area which becomes a dance floor as the night wears on. Every night they lay mats and tables on the beach for people to watch the sunrise. As the night progresses the bar packs out with people partying. There's also a fire dancing show every night. Open until early in the morning. Happy Hour is from 4pm to 7pm - drinks are 50 THB.
DJL Bar on Sairee Beach is part of Davey Jones Locker dive school. On Friday nights they have a pool party with BBQ and cheap shots.
The Castle Nightclub has been running big dance events for 5 years now. It is located inland on the road between Mae Haad and Chalok Baan Kao. 100 Thai Baht entry fee with free shot. Cheap buckets before midnight. UK DJs play electro, house and D n B. Go to The Castle website.
Simple Life Bar is on Sairee Beach. It is a relaxed bar on the beach. The bar usually has a nice atmosphere and is worth checking out.
Queen's Cabaret is in Sairee Village. The title of the place says it all. It is a place where you can watch Thai lady boys strut their stuff in gorgeous outfits.
Choppers Bar and Grill in Sairee Village is an Aussie Theme pub that shows live sports. They do great Western food and show a film every afternoon. On Wednesday the Happy Hour is from noon to 10pm, other days of the week it is from 4pm to 8pm. There's also a pool table.
Dirty Nelly's is Koh Tao's only Irish bar. It is located in Mae Haad. Dirty Nelly's features live music, live sports on TV and a good menu.
Sea Monkeys is a bar near Mae Haad pier. They serve cheap drinks and often have a new DJ playing. The music is often more varied than at some of the other bars.
Koh Tao Bowling and Minigolf. On the Chalok Road just before turning to Ao Leuk. Bowling lanes, 18 hole mini golf, petanque courts and Greek restaurant. Open noon to 12pm. (see Koh Tao Mini Golf Facebook page).
Dragon Bar in Mae Haad has a Bruce Lee theme and serves great cocktails.
Buddha on the Beach is located at the Buddha view point in Chalok Baan Kao. It is an open air beach bar that plays Indie, soul and funk.
AC Party Bar is at the south end of Sairee Beach. It is the original party spot for Koh Tao and still one of the best. They have a party on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Safety Stop Pub near Mae Haad pier has a tropical beer garden and serves English food including Sunday lunch. It also has draught beer.
Cloud Nine in Mae Haad (Post Office Road) has a comedy night every Tuesday and Thursday.
